Orbis, the team mentored by Wolfpack Digital this summer, won first place in this year's "Descoperă-ți Pasiunea în IT" Academy

We are happy to share the success story of the Orbis team, which secured first place at the Descoperă-ți Pasiunea în IT Academy this year.

The Orbis team comprises six high-school students: Ioana Daiana Drânda (Project Manager, UI/UX, Marketing, Business), Timeea Bojor (UI/UX, Marketing, Business), Matei Barbat (Backend and Front-end developer), Tudor Ceclan (Backend developer), David Vîrlan Blaj (Front-end developer), and Szilard Kelemen (Front-end developer). Together they developed the Orbis app, an environmental app that helps users track their carbon footprint and provides resources and sustainability tips.

The 10th edition of the program brought together 120 high-school and university participants, grouped into 20 teams from across Romania. Mentors from different IT companies guided the teams to develop innovative tech products, from concept to prototype. We were happy to be involved, as it was the perfect chance to give back to our community and help young students learn and build innovative solutions. This year, Cristian Virciu, Head of UX/UI Design at Wolfpack Digital, and Victor Motogna, Head of Web Development at Wolfpack Digital, mentored the Orbis team.

About the Descopera-ti Pasiunea in IT Academy and community support

The Descoperă-ți Pasiunea în IT Academy is a program dedicated to empowering high-school students with technical mentorship and hands-on experience in IT innovation. When they got to climate change, they realized that, as high-school students, they didn’t have enough information on the topic or know how to reduce their carbon footprint. That was the moment they decided to bring Orbis to life.

The Orbis app is a great example of what’s possible when innovation meets purpose. Designed as an eco-friendly app, it lets users track their carbon footprint while offering practical sustainability tips to promote greener living. Using satellite data, it offers personalised ecological challenges and a dynamic virtual planet that evolves based on the user’s sustainable actions, adding a gamification layer that keeps people engaged.

The success of Orbis is a powerful example of how eco-friendly technology and sustainable development can drive innovation and positive change. Winning this competition is not just a win for the Orbis team but a milestone for everyone who believes in the power of environmental awareness apps to create a greener future.
